The time to reflect and give thanks is here and while I am thankful for these things all the time I want to put it in writing to make it part of my cyber footprint. I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with the amazing 3rd grade DL kids. They really are a special group. Yes, sometimes they act like brothers and sisters and drive me crazy, but they have a unique bond that makes us all better. Being with the same peers everyday for three years is challenging and rewarding. I am also thankful to have the support of parents who understand the importance of what we do everyday.
Have you heard the name Miss Morgan yet? She is a Ready, Set, Teach student from Coppell High School who comes to work with my class every Tues., Wed. and Thurs. From 1:15- 2:45. The kids and I love having her around to help. She was a student at DCE K-5 before moving on to CMSN and CHS.
3E had fun this past week creating a brochure for their own amusement park. They were very creative.
We had a wonderful ceremony on Friday to honor Veterans.
I sent out an email last week about 3rd grade singing at Barnes and Noble on December 1st. I appreciate those of you who responded to my request for ideas on Spanish carols. You will be getting a note this week to find out who will be able to participate.
This coming week we will be starting a Social Studies/ Language Arts Unit on Cultural Diversity. It will last for 4 weeks, and students will be examining their culture(s), cultures of friends, neighbors, our community and people around the world. It will involve research, thoughtful discussions, and creating a presentation to give in front of the class. This project will work on critical thinking, creativity, communication to name a few. The end goal is that students will gain an understanding of why it is important to celebrate and appreciate the many cultures of our community and our world. As we end this Unit, we will have a multicultural feast to allow students to share foods from many cultures. Parents are welcome to join us. The tentative date is December 14. More information will be coming soon.
In addition to this great unit, we will also be studying multiplication and Forces and Motion.
